Classes

The Lost Studio, as a teaching theater, has many ongoing acting classes available following an acting school tradition that extends beyond it’s 20+ years.

Daytime
Scene Study

With teacher/director Cinda Jackson. If you’re a young actor, you NEED this class. This class meets 4 days per week (Tuesday through Friday) with 2 days of Scene Study and 2 days of Sensory, Voice, Body Work, and Improv. for beginning through advanced professional actors.

The Lost Studio Daytime Intensive is one of the only places in town that offers a conservatory atmosphere for actors of all levels working in Los Angeles. Learn acting..by ACTING, onstage four days a week.

The Daytime Intensive is taught in on-going 8 week sessions, offering seriously committed actors an opportunity to really deepen their work. Classes are kept small, so that actors are on stage working every day, usually doing 2 scenes per week, as well as sensory and improvisation.

Students are permitted studio time for rehearsals.

Tuition: $560.00 for 8 week session, 4 days per week. That’s about $17 per class, not including rehearsal time..

Advanced
Scene Study

This class meets 1 night per week and includes 1 daytime sensory class per week. The sessions are 8 weeks, and each session will focus on one playwright, offering an in-depth study of that writer’s work. During each session, the actors will be assigned scenes from two different plays, allowing 4 weeks to refine their work on each scene.

Tuition: $400.00 for 8 week session, 2 classes per week.

Company
Class

This class is by invitation only and meets 1 time per week. The focus is to deepen, expand, and refine the work of each individual actor, and to train as a performance ensemble with a shared language and vision. The work will be rigorous and challenging, and through the material explored in class, we will determine our production season.

Annual
Shakespeare
Intensive

This 2 week workshop meets Monday through Friday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m., the second and third weeks of August. The class includes daily work on understanding the structure of Shakespeare’s writing.

Within the text, we find everything we need when we learn how to look for it. His content, language, use of prose or verse, poetry, rhythm, meter, and imagery reveal everything. He instructs us as to character, motivation, circumstances, actions, where we’ve been, where we are, where we’re going, and why.

We will learn scansion, meter, what the rules are, and when Shakespeare instructs us to break them. We will do vocal work with exercises from the world’s leading teachers to help free the voice. There will be extensive movement work to free and center the body, unlocking tension and physical blocks, allowing for full expression, so necessary in the use of heightened text.

The class finishes with a staged performance for an invited audience the evening of the last day. This class is crucial for actors, and enormously stimulating for writers, directors, and anyone with an appetite for Shakespeare.

Tuition: $500.00 for 72+hours of class and rehearsal time, in addition to the staged performance.

Les Enfants
Magiques!

The Lost Studio also offers a unique children’s theatre workshop. In Les Enfants Magiques!, children study acting, movement, voice and diction, set design, lighting, stage make-up, and most importantly, learn to collaborate in creating and performing innovative theatre.

Cinda Jackson and her teaching staff of professional actors lead the young artists in exploring different cultures and genres of classical theatre, with each workshop culminating in a staged production. Les Enfants Magiques! charms audiences, leaving them begging for more.

’Night, Mother — Marsha Norman’s gripping two-hander, winner of the Pulitzer Prize, is an intense, edge-of-your-seat drama that will keep audiences guessing the outcome until the very end. A supposedly normal evening in the mother-daughter Cates household is shattered when 40-something Jessie announces to Mama that she plans to kill herself before the night is over. Over the course of 90 minutes, in real time, Thelma desperately works to convince her daughter that life is worth living. Eloquent and darkly humorous, ‘night, Mother has been hailed as an American classic and one of the most powerful contemporary dramas ever written.
